Team #Bayerforlife! Walks 25 km to Conquer Cancer in Toronto
Team #BayerForLife participated in the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer™ benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
On September 9, 2017 Team #Bayerforlife participated in the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer™ benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PMCC), one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. On a beautiful sunny day, 16 members of the Bayer team walked 25 kilometres through the streets of Toronto. The annual Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer brings together communities of participants, survivors and their supporters for the common goal of conquering cancer.
“A wonderful rewarding way to spend a Saturday,” said Laure Wingett, Senior Manager, Hematology, Bayer Inc. “Not only did I enjoy hearing the patient stories but the feeling of comradery towards a goal that was important to us all. The fundraising target was a bit daunting at first but I was really impressed how many people wanted to support such a great cause and the Bayer match really made a difference.”
Bayer matches employee donations up to $200 per year, and some employees took advantage of this perk to contribute more to the OneWalk fundraiser.
Another participant, Niki Haley-Scott, Director National Sales, Oncology, Bayer Inc. said, “Being a part of the OneWalk this year was a humbling experience in more ways than one! I was humbled by all of the support from others to the cause, the masses of people that gave up their sunny Saturday, the organization of all the teams, the beauty of our city and how walking 25km had me feel pretty wrecked that night! Most of all, it is especially humbling to be reminded of all many people, in all many roles, who take on the battle of cancer! A great day to have been a part of.”
Team #Bayerforlife raised more than $27,000 in support of PMCC! Paul Newman, Oncology Business Head, Bayer Inc. said, “I always feel proud and privileged to be able to represent Bayer at such a worthy cause and to spend time with such great people.”
The funds raised through OneWalk are put to use immediately to continue to support Personalized Cancer Medicine. The funds will enable their world-leading doctors and researchers to detect cancers earlier, diagnose with more precision, target treatment for each patient and support patients and their families throughout the cancer journey, at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
